History

Hooghly Krishi Vigyan Kendra got sanctioned by Indian Council of Agricultural research (ICAR) in the year of 2005 under the administrative control of Bidhan Chandra Krishi Viswavidyalaya. The University has it's headquarter at Mohanpur, Nadia, West Bengal. This KVK is situated at Chisurah, Hooghly, West Bengal. The KVK is designed to impart need-based and skill-oriented vocational training to the practicing farmers, in service field level extension workers and to those who wish to go in for self-employment. This Hooghly KVK is vested with the responsibilities to bring forth agricultural vis-à-vis rural development in Hooghly through its mandated activities on training, front line demonstrations and on farm testing/adaptive trials. In essence, the KVK has been conceived to perform as a lighthouse for the farming community of the district. The KVK is having a motto to disseminate the newer technologies at the door step of stakeholders and to enrich their knowledge regarding the scientific cultivation for their socio-economic improvement. This Hooghly KVK has been established to identify the problems in the adopted villages through PRA and prepare its thrust area. The Hooghly Krishi Vigyan Kendra has started its operation in a makeshift office at the premises of Chinsurah Rice Research Station and Agricultural Training Centre. The land of an area of about 22 acre has already been transferred to Bidhan Chandra Krishi Viswavidyalaya by Department of Agriculture, Govt. of West Bengal for establishing its farm and construction of office building.

The office has started its functioning since September, 2006 at Chinsurah after appointment of the supporting staff.
